Obituary for David G Gore

HOPEWELL TWP.
David Gore, a Hopewell Township resident, died Saturday, September 12, 2020. The son of Elizabeth and W. Edgar Gore, David grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan along with his brother Robert Gore. He attended the University of Michigan then Wayne State University graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in marketing and a minor in advertising.
He came east in the mid-sixties to pursue a career in his chosen field of Market Research. He would eventually settle in the Princeton area where he would begin his career at Gallup and Robinson. Positions at both Opinion Research and Hase-Schannen Research would follow. After 40 years, he would retire as a Vice-President with Hase-Schannen Research marking a long and distinguished career in the field.
David believed strongly in the ideas of service, love of family and friends, and of becoming involved in the local community. He served in the US Army as both an active duty solder and reservist from 1960-1966 eventually being discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his time in market research, he always put family first becoming a soccer coach for his son’s YMCA teams, an assistant Boy Scout leader and always attended the Hopewell Valley Bulldogs soccer and hockey games where his son was a member of both teams.
After retirement, David became heavily involved in the Hope Valley Lions organization where some may remember him coming to the door selling either 50/50 raffle tickets or goodies for the Lion’s fall fundraiser such as fruitcakes, pretzels, tea and/or coffee. He did all this to help raise money for the Lion’s college scholarship fund and other community projects the Lions became involved in such as: assisting the local boy scout troops, providing a magnified reading machine for the Hopewell branch of the Mercer County Library System, the Lions White Cane fundraising project to help those who are sight impaired and the recycling of eye glasses.
Others may remember him from “Morningside Mowing”, the lawn service company he started in retirement. Not one to sit around, he once said, “I need to stay in shape and mowing lawns is a great way to do it,” thus was born “Morning Side Mowing” He would keep mowing lawns until his 80th year, at which time he decided it was a good time to sit back and finally “smell the roses” as they say. David lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind, including his wife, Jonnylee Gore, and son Steven.
A memorial service will be held at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington on October 10th from 1-3pm. Calling hours will start at 1pm followed by the Reverend Ophelia Laughlin of St. Mathew’s Episcopal Church opening the service at 2pm. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Hopewell Valley Lions Club in David’s name. Thank you. Condolences are welcome at www.wilsonapple.com.
