John (Jack) Monroe, age 92, born in Staten Island NY and recently of Ewing NJ, peacefully passed away on March 16. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eileen (Porter) Monroe, son Douglas (wife Cathy), and by daughters Susan Monroe, and Jill Monroe-Dillon (husband Alan). Jack is also survived by five grandchildren: Emily (husband Bryan), Ross, Stephen, Kerry, Luke and one great-grandson: Wyatt Calvetti.
A WW II veteran, Jack continued his service in the reserves and the National Guard, and was a career employee with the NJ Department of Defense. He was a lifelong member of the 112 Field Artillery Association, and was an active participant in the establishment of the National Guard Militia Museum of NJ in Lawrenceville NJ.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 23 at West Trenton Presbyterian Church, 490 Grand Ave., West Trenton, New Jersey 08628. Visitation will start at 10:00 AM in the lower level “Fireside Room” of the church, followed by the memorial service at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary.
Jack will be interred, with military ceremony, on Friday Mar 22 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd, Newtown, PA 18940, at 9:30 AM (promptly). Family and friends are welcome to attend the Friday military ceremony and/or the Saturday memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, tax deductible contributions (to NGMMNJ, Inc) can be sent to the military museum that Jack helped establish and actively supported: National Guard Militia Museum of New Jersey, 151 Eggerts Crossing Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
