Obituary for Barry Adler

Barry Richard Adler
HOPEWELL
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our husband, brother, uncle, and friend, Barry Richard Adler.
Born in Hopewell on July 29, 1947, Barry was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Elizabeth Adler and brother Ernest Adler. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Joan Adler, his sister, Elizabeth Hart, brother, William Adler (wife, Lois), sister-in-law, Carol Adler and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Barry graduated from Princeton High School in 1965 and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969 when he was released from active duty. Barry then attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and became a licensed FAA air frame mechanic. After graduating, Barry got a job as a mechanic in Daytona, FL, and soon met Joan, a teacher vacationing from Illinois who became his future bride. The two resided in Hopewell where Barry established his business, Adler Repair.
Barry was a member of the Hopewell Fire Department. He took incredible pride in restoring their 1922 American La France fire truck known to many as old No. 1 with his friend, Frank Voorhees. Barry was a member of the American Legion Post 339. He was one of the founding members of the Hopewell Open Golf Club and he competed in a local dart league with friends.
Barry loved auto racing and raced sportsman and enduro cars at Flemington, East Windsor, and Bridgeport race tracks for many years. He was a huge fan of Nascar and loved traveling all over the country in his camper to attend races.
Barry lived life to the fullest. He even took up skiing in his mid 50s and enjoyed several years on the slopes with friends in New England and out West. Barry had an uncanny wit that was sure to make anyone around him laugh and smile. He was a good friend to many. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
Please join us for a Celebration of Barry's Life on Saturday, Dec. 29th from 1 to 4 p.m. at Hillbilly Hall in Hopewell. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barry's name to the Hopewell Fire Department or Christine's Hope for Kids.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Cromwell-Immordino Memorial Home, 2560 Pennington Rd., Pennington, NJ 08534.
