Obituary for Anne L. Russum

Anne L. Russum
May 31, 1946 - May 9, 2019

Anne Lansing Russum died at age 72 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She passed peacefully at her Princeton home with family members present.

Anne is survived by her younger brother John and his wife Jeanne of Los Angeles and brother-in-law Glenn and his wife Peggy of Omar, NY. She was predeceased
by her younger and loving sister, Sarah. As a caring and generous aunt, she is survived by her nieces Melissa, and her husband Brent, Jessica and Joelle and her nephews Tim, and his wife Robin, Christopher, and his wife Amanda, Jordan and Blake.

Anne grew up in Madison, NJ graduating from Madison High School. She received her BA from Trenton State Teachers College (now The College of New Jersey). Anne was a lifelong elementary school teacher in Lambertville, NJ retiring after 42 years of service. She began her career as a third grade teacher before moving to the Basic Skills program where she and a colleague won a State of New Jersey outstanding program at the International Reading Conference. Said a fellow teacher and school administrator, “Anne always went beyond the typical teaching methods. Her students never just read the chapters and answered the questions at the end. She made every lesson come to life and her students were actively engaged. Anne was a gifted, creative and talented teacher”. A former student and current School Board member shared similar accolades. “Those who reflected their sorrow over her passing also passed on notes of adoration for a lovely teacher -words such as kind, passionate, loving, gentle - someone always looking for a silver lining. Anne left an impact on generations of students and her loss is heavy on our hearts."

Anne’s passions included researching and compiling voluminous family genealogy records years before its online popularity and exploring the east coast on frequent kayaking trips. A memorial service is planned for Syracuse NY and a “Celebration of Life” in Lambertville, NJ.
